Reflections

Sometimes the biggest lessons come from the most ordinary moments.

These reflections aren't about having all the answers. They're simply moments that made me stop, think and see life a little differently. If they do the same for you, then they've served their purpose.

It wasn't supposed to be like this

In 2018 I underwent what was meant to be a routine medical procedure.

I'd never had the procedure before. In fact, I'd never even had a general anaesthetic. I remember leaving work the night before telling a colleague how nervous I was. She smiled and said, "If you don't have it done, that could be worse."

The 25-Year Warranty

On the hunt for a new saucepan set, I did my due diligence to find a good quality one.

The sales assistant at the department store happily told me, "This set comes with a 25-year warranty."

Everything was great......then out of the blue

I left school young. I couldn't wait to start working.

Although I only completed Year 11, I never stopped learning.

To retire..... or not to retire?

Retirement.

It's what we're all working towards.

Or is it?

Milestones of Life

Have you ever stopped to think about the milestones we pass through without really noticing?

We begin life completely dependent on others.

It's OK to feel all the feels

It's Okay to Feel All the Feels

A little while ago, I went to see *Inside Out 2* with my grandchildren.

Jumping to conclusions

One thing I learnt over many years working in Human Resources is this:

Never jump to conclusions.

Helping Others: What Does Community Mean to You?

"Community." It's a word we use often, but what does it really mean? When I was growing up, my mum and dad were the neighbours everyone hoped to have. If someone needed help, they were there. Borrowing a cup of sugar wasn't unusual.

The Power of Connection

There are countless memes about friendship that always make me smile.

You know the ones... friends who haven't seen each other for months, or even years, but the moment they reconnect it's as though no time has passed. The conversation flows, the laughter returns, and you're instantly reminded why that friendship matters. It made me think that perhaps it isn't just friendship we treasure. It's connection.

Juggling

We are all juggling something.

Work. Family. Children. Ageing parents. Study. Relationships. Finances. Health. Housework. Deadlines. And sometimes, all of them seem to demand our attention at exactly the same time.

Every day is a new day

I love the saying “Every day is a new day.”

It sounds simple, but I think there is a lot of truth in it.

We can have days when we feel anxious, disappointed, overwhelmed or just plain fed up. Whatever is happening can feel enormous in that moment.

Now I understand why

I didn’t grow up with social media. In fact, I think it was around 2008 when I first joined Facebook, which seems like a long time ago now.

Before that, it probably wasn’t until the early 1990s that I started using computers and email in the workplace.

Psychosocial Safety: Complex Problems, Simple Principles

The recent focus on psychosocial safety in the workplace has made me reflect on my own experiences, both professionally and personally.

As a factual investigator, I have investigated many psychological injury and stress claims. The circumstances have varied enormously, but one thing I have observed repeatedly is the level of distress experienced by the claimant.

Snowflakes and Sunrises

Many years ago, I was fortunate enough to work for a company that offered me the opportunity to attend an Asia-Pacific Human Resources Conference in South Korea.

And I didn't want to go.

Respect!

Respect! What does it mean to you?

We all hae diffferent values, principles and beliefs. They are shaped as we grow up - by our parents and families, teachers, friends, relationships, workplaces, sporting clubs and the world around us.

Life is a BALLOON Adventure!

Life gets busy, doesn't it? Between studying, working, family commitments, caring for ageing parents and everything else that life throws our way, the days, weeks and months seem to disappear before we know it.

Would you enjoy a HOT AIR BALLOON Adventure?
