On the hunt for a new saucepan set, I did my due diligence to find a good quality one.

The sales assistant at the department store happily told me, "This set comes with a 25-year warranty."

​

For a split second I was taken aback. Then I laughed and replied, "Well, this could be my last saucepan set! If it lasts 25 years, I'll be 87... if I'm lucky."

It made me stop and think.

​

From time to time I find myself noticing just how quickly time seems to be moving. There was a stage in life when it never crossed my mind how many holidays I might still have ahead of me—or, for that matter, how many saucepan sets I'd need!

A friend who turns 70 next year was recently looking for a new car. Her partner casually remarked, "This will probably be your last car."

​

When did we start measuring life like this?

​

It doesn't make me sad.

​

If anything, it reminds me to live each day with intention. We all have responsibilities—work, ageing parents, children, grandchildren and countless commitments—but perhaps that's the point.

Enjoy the conversations.
Enjoy the ordinary moments.

Because one day, even buying a saucepan set can become a gentle reminder that life is precious.
