Milestones of Life
Have you ever stopped to think about the milestones we pass through without really noticing?
We begin life completely dependent on others.
Our preschool years are filled with wonder. Every day we learn something new. Walking. Talking. Playing. Discovering the world around us.
Then come our school years. From Reception to Year 12, we grow from children into young adults. Friendships come and go. We discover our interests, our strengths and sometimes even our purpose.
Before long, we're starting careers, finding partners, creating homes and, for many of us, raising children of our own.
Life feels busy.
Sometimes too busy to notice how quickly the years are passing.
Then another milestone quietly arrives.
Grandchildren.
Retirement.
Ageing parents who once looked after us now needing us to look after them.
And one day, almost without realising it, we become the oldest generation.
That thought stopped me in my tracks.
Not because it made me sad.
Because it reminded me just how precious each stage of life really is.
Every milestone brings something different.
Some bring excitement.
Some bring heartache.
Some bring responsibility.
Some bring unexpected opportunities.
None of them last forever.
Perhaps that's why it's so important to be present in the season we're living right now.
Because before we know it...
Another milestone arrives.
